Village host cricket ‘origin’ format

 Keapara village in the Central, is renowned for producing sports stars for PNG in Cricket, Aussie Rules and Netball. 

Today, the village will spring to life once again when the Keapara Cricket Association kicks off their cricket season with a weeklong tournament.

The tournament will begin with their own version of the state-of-origin challenge, with four clans going head to head. 

Reigning champions Oraks will be ably led by local Rev. Pala Kali who will be looking to retain the crown.

The biggest clan in the village, Keipis has other ideas and will come out firing in all departments with the help of 2012 BSP Hearts player Badira Guma.  

Favourites Viraks will want to show their true maroon colours to atone for their dismal performance in 2012. 

Meanwhile Amoa Eagles will rely heavily on former PNG U19 rep, William Mula to pull them through the tournament.

The winning team will walk away with K400 prize money whilst the top two teams will have the opportunity to take on the 2013 Hebou Shield finalists, Pacific MMI Marlins in a “City vs. Country” exhibition match. 

The village boys will be up against the likes of Hebou PNG Barramundi’s captain, Chris Amini, master blaster, Assad Vala, Ratu Maha, Charles Amini Jnr and the old hands of Navu Maha. Marlins players will also run a cricket clinic throughout the day.

It will be a fun filled week of cricket with plenty of fireworks to happen on the pitch.
