CRICKET Papua New Guinea is expecting a huge turnout of fans on Sunday as its Trukai Village Premier League heads into the finals at Amini Park in Port Moresby.
General manager Tony Naidu told The National that it would be an exciting day of cricket especially with fans coming from Central’s Rigo to watch their team, Gamoga Lawyers Spirit of Rigo. Rigo and Koita Fresh secured direct entry to the semifinals after being undefeated last Sunday in their round matches while the other four teams will head into the quarterfinals playoff to earn the last two spots.
“The two undefeated teams have a significant advantage with direct entry to semifinals,” Naidu said.
“Rigo, who surprised the others last week, are no longer unknowns.
“But they will face a tougher challenge this weekend. They will look to improve for the final.
“They most likely have the biggest crowd of supporters. With knockout cricket, the pressure is different and the excitement level is going to be amazing.” The finalists will be vying for the first prize of K20,000 while the second prize is K5,000, and K1,000 each to third and fourth.
Fixtures: Sun, May 15 – Northern Alexanders v Panamex PNG (guarterfinal one), Zara Wanderers v Fairprice Furniture (quarterfinal two), Spirit of Rigo v quarterfinal one winner, Koita Warriors v quarterfinal two winner (semifinals).
