VILLAGERS in the Simbai area of Madang say there is an emergence of another sect called “Black Jesus” or “Anti-Christ operating in the Middle Ramu district”.
In 2009 reports of a cult group of the same name emerged in the Trans-Gogol area of Madang and parts of Markham,  in Morobe province.
Founded in 1974, initial followers joined in 1998 with more people affiliating from 2002 onwards.
The leader of the group, Ernest Kapiang, is known to his followers as “Father” or “Chief” and his wife “Mother”.
A concerned community leader from Simbai, Bayamb Gongi said they had asked Madang police to visit the area to investigate the group whose activities and doctrines were worrying Christians from the area.
Gongi said the sect was teaching its followers that there would be no second coming of Jesus Christ and that it had the power to prevent natural disasters.
