Villagers get financial literacy lessons, open accounts

A GROUP of villagers have been given the opportunity to open bank accounts when Bank South Pacific staff visited them.
Wamora coffee farmers association director Giegere Hedziga said the bank staff visited Wario village last month, in Finchhafen’s Kotte LLG in Morobe.
“No other bank has set foot here,” Hedziga said. BSP conducted financial literacy sessions for about 300 villagers including members of the association who invited the bank to their village.
The training was based on the different types of accounts, suitable account types for customers and the importance of savings.
The BSP team assisted farmers in opening 240 accounts, registered 100 mobile banking facility, including cash deposits, and Eftpos device application.
BSP Lae Top Town branch manager Bevilon Homuo said: “Going out to rural areas to deliver banking service is an experience in itself but as BSP ambassadors we do it with our hearts.”
