Villagers running out of food

VILLAGERS devastated by a freak flood last week in Mul-Baiyer, Western Highlands are running out of food, ward councillor Oks Ponum says.
He said most their gardens were washed away by the flood caused by the River Kumu on Feb 3. Some gardens were damaged by landslides.
“We are calling on the authorities to look into this matter. We have not received any help since Feb 3.
“We have buried the six who lost their lives. We need to eat and move on in life,” Ponum asked.
Children cannot go to school at Kuip Dau because the bridges had been washed away.
Ponum said officials from the health and primary industry departments had assessed the damage.
An engineering team also surveyed the three bridges damaged by the flood.
