VILLAGERS of Tantareki in Buin district, South Bougainiville are looking forward to accessing clean water once a water supply project is completed.
Minister for Bougainville Affairs Joe Lera allocated K30,000 to the project.
He gave the cheque to the village’s paramount chief Francis Naisi.
Lera said a good water supply was a basic need that must be provided to the people to improve their lives.
He said under his 14 transformational pillars of development, water supply projects came under the fourth pillar on Develop and Extend Health.
He also funded the Kakarapaia- Asitavi water supply with K450,000 and the Hangan village water supply with K370,000.
Naisi said the funds would go a long way in assisting mothers and children who walked long distances to obtain clean water.
Member for South Bougainville Timothy Masiu also gave K50,000 towards the project.
Once completed, the water project will benefit a population of more than 500 people in the village, who would have access to good clean water.
