Violence against women, children

Letters

Papua New Guinea is experiencing a high level of violence against women and children.
The violence is being carried out in many forms to people who are vulnerable. It is alarming and it is getting worse.
Many suggestions and ideas have been put forward but none seems to work. Many of us from Christian background understand that change in people’s behaviour can only come from an inward change in thought and attitude.
Unless change takes place that way, every type of outward rules, restrictions and discipline will not work to change a person who regularly behaves in a violent manner to his spouse and children.
We claim PNG to be a Christian country and so in that sense the government agencies should refer people with the attitude of violence and undisciplined behaviour to the leaders of their churches.
Churches should play a greater role to help to their followers strengthen their spiritual situation.
Church workers and leaders and their church organisations are there to shepherd their members to live a Christ-like life on daily basis.
