Vipers plotting upset of Gurias at Kalabond
By PARKER TAMBUA
PORT Moresby Vipers say they are determined to “bury Rabaul Gurias in their own graveyard” of Kalabond Oval in Kokopo in tomorrow’s round-10 Digicel Cup clash (2pm kick-off).
“We know that the Kalabond Oval is a graveyard for most teams,” Vipers coach Joe Sipa told The National yesterday.
“But we want to go and bury them in their own graveyard.
“In saying that, I think the Vipers have recorded a few wins at Kalabond and it can be repeated.
“But we know the Gurias are always tough to beat at home and they will up for the challenge.
“Regardless of them having recorded back-to-back losses in the lead-up to this game, it’s their home turf and we have to be at our best to come out winners.”
The former Papua New Guinea Kumul said skipper Thompson Teteh would return after he missed last weekend’s win over Gulf Isou due to concussion.
“Winger Brendon Bigam will be rested due to a rib injury he suffered last week while Ade Kawa will also miss the game due to a hand injury,” Sipa said.
“But I have confidence in the pair’s replacements.
“The momentum is with us and we have to continue it with a win at Kalabond.”
Meanwhile, the Agmark-sponsored Gurias will be desperate for a victory against the Moni Plus-backed visitors with their season hanging in the balance.
