Visiting specialist doctors attend to 201 patients

 A TOTAL of 201 people from Kiunga and Tabubil, including villages around the townships, have undergone ear, nose, throat and dental checks from visiting specialists.

Dr Sam Endican, an ear, nose and throat specialist, and Dr Ian Wani, a dentist, have been doing medical assessments and surgical operations on people with ear, nose and throat illnesses over the last 10 days at the Tabubil Hospital in Western.

By Wednesday, the team had seen 201 patients – 41 in Kiunga and 160 in Tabubil, and 40 were children. 

Nine adults and two children were operated on three had been referred for surgery outside the province.  

Those referred include a male patient from Kiunga with an ear infection who will be undergoing surgery in Mt Hagen. The other two referrals were made to the Port Moresby General Hospital.

Tabubil Hospital director medical services Dr Kilagi Vanuga said the hospital was committed to providing a service that was not currently available.
