The World Population Day is a reminder for parents to instill discipline in their children, Transport Minister Malakai Tabar says.

“Young people have an important role to play in future in terms of development and must not be neglected; therefore parents must always standby when young people face difficulties,” he said.

Tabar said parents, especially fathers, had a greater role in shaping the lives of young people through discipline.

“I would encourage fathers regardless of your qualification, that it is you duty to teach and raise the young people home so they reach out to others as good ambassadors,” he said. “Revolution of power in the family is broken down.”

He said the issue of HIV-Aids, teenage pregnancy, social media misuse and others would not severely impact on young people if parents provided guidance and proper information about these issues.

He urged young people to uphold good practice to shape their character and attitude.
