TWO champion teams from the Fairfax Volley and NCD Volleyball associations faced off in an  exhibition match at the Filipino Association of PNG sports complex at Gordon on Sunday.
Joey Sena, who is the chairman of PNGVA referees’ commission brought in the Raukele Dolphins, who are the defending champions of the Fairfax competition and they played Vanama of the NCDVA.
Vanama beat the Dolphins 3-1 and walked away with K1000 while the runners-up were given K500.
Vanama coach Jack Lohia thanked the Dolphins for the game.
He also thanked the Filipino Association of PNG for their assistance and support of the two local teams by allowing the use of their facility. Fairfax VA president and founder of Raukele Dolphins Kila Dick was impressed by the effort from his team even though they lost.
Dick said they were fortunate that groups such as the Filipinos were doing their part to help small sports like volleyball.
He said that there were four volleyball associations in Port Moresby and having inter-competition matches was a good way of boosting the interest in the code among the fans and the players and having the best play the best.
“This competition was nothing to do with national selection or PNG Games selection but this is purely an exhibition competition between two top teams from two major volleyball associations in NCD,” Dick said.
