Volunteer impressed
A NEW Zealand volunteer praised Papua New Guineans for them being innovative and creative in offering solutions to problems posed.
Volunteer Service Abroad personnel Robert Algar praised the 19 prisoners and Correctional Service officers at the Kavieng Correctional Services prison, who participated in an aquaponics programme where they built a treadle pump to support a hydroponic system.
Last Friday, during the presentation of certificates, Algar said that he was amazed by the ingenuity of Papua New Guineans.
“You people worked hard. You were committed and you completed the project within three weeks. Papua New Guineans are clever,” Algar said.
“There were hurdles ahead of you, there were problems but then you worked and found solutions to those problems and sorted them out.”
Kavieng jail commander Inspector Lemasisi Marengi thanked the two New Zealand volunteers and the fisheries college for helping teach the inmates and officers new set of skills.
