THE Johnson Siki oval in Wabag came alive last weekend during the staging of Enga’s annual cultural show.
Cultural groups from all over the country performed their cultural songs, dances and displayed various traditional activities.
A group from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville performed their popular bamboo dances along with dancers from Morobe and Madang.
Several displays depicted the traditional methods of fire making, bilum weaving, house building, how to make mumus, gardening, fencing and the different ways of making bows and arrows.
What caught the attention of curious onlookers was a Laiagam man who displayed human skulls and bones, and told a myth of how a lake was fed humans as sacrifice and the bones were later retrieved by his ancestors.
The mixed traditional activities also proved very informative for the many young men and women who attended the show.
A singsing group comprising young children also performed.
A major crowd attraction was the live performance by musical groups and individual artistes from around the country, including a number of locals.
Governor Peter Ipatas, in his official opening remarks on Saturday, challenged the people to preserve their culture as it was their pride.
The show began on Saturday and ended yesterday with provincial groups receiving prizes for their activities.
