Wabag hosts first fashion fair

National

WABAG has hosted, for the first time a PNG Fashion Week (PNGFW) fair last week.
The fair coincided with the 25th Enga Cultural Show.
The fashion fair created an opportunity to inspire and discover potential textile artists and fashion designers in the province and the Highlands to provide a platform to showcase their designs and products.
The fair, themed “Inspiration and Discovery Runway”, was held on Aug 9 at the Take Ande (House of Value).
The Take Ande is the second museum and gallery in the country.
PNG Fashion Week director Philma Kelegai said PNGFW aimed to partner with provincial governments and local existing bodies to empower, inspire and push the growth of the fashion and textiles industry at a local level and an international level.
The Enga Fashion Fair was headlined by Sebastian Sambasivam, who was last year’s emerging designer award winner.
The event featured three collections from:

  • Miss PNG shop owned by PNG Fashion Week Ltd. The clothing showcased were ready to wear pieces;
  • Engan textile artists Stanley Peasaro’s art in collaboration with Miss PNG and an emerging Engan designer Lissa Arut; and,
  • Guest designer from Port Moresby and 2018 PNG Fashion Week winning emerging designer Sebastian Sambasivam.

The fair also saw PNG Fashion Week select its top designer and top model from Enga who would be taking part in a bigger event later in Port Moresby.
