Wafi Golpu land debate

Letters

THE days are counting down towards the signing of the Wafi Golpu project agreement between the developers, landowners and the Government.
However, the people of Morobe and their leaders are confused and have been so since the day the PIU incorporated land group announced its existence.
The land group provided clear evidence, including letters from the Lutheran church head office, and other official documents.
The Lutheran Bishop and President of Yabem district wrote strong letters supporting PIU’s claim as the rightful landowners of the Wafi Golpu project land.
As we head towards the signing of the agreement, we also have a question to ask: Why is the hand of God pointing to one particular landowner group?
Can the people of Morobe answer this question? Remember, it was a compensation for the food crops, not for the land, and you went ahead and claimed the land. When the special land tittle commissioners went to Lae to solve the land issues, it was removed as it was about to complete its task.
When the court tried to reinstate it, you, the people of Morobe, froze it. You are using the government and the court system to push aside the legitimate landowners. You don’t want the LTC to identify the legitimate landowners.
Fellow Morobeans, the issues over the Wafi Golpu landownership has not yet been resolved but yet some people are already claiming it.
Be honest, come out with your history, evidence and witnesses to confirm that you are the legitimate landowners.
The PIUs claims that it has been on that land since 1935 and used as proof a payment to them by the first kiap, Mr Murray, for a police post to be erected on the land, so where were you at that time? PIUs have done it. What about you, the other landowners? Come out with your history and evidence. People of Morobe are watching you. Come out and clear up your name and let Morobe be a curse-free province.
