Wagambie confirms another robbery

MOROBE police Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jr confirmed yet another armed robbery in Lae this week.
He said eight men held up workers of a shop on Monday afternoon and made off with a substantial amount of money. They were in workers’ uniforms and got away in a vehicle when police arrived.
Wagambie described the action as well-planned and executed it using mobile phones.
He said police had caught a suspect who was an elderly person and a senior worker in a company was in custody. His vehicle is  believed to have been used in recent robberies – at least five over the past five weeks.
Wagambie said females were used as cover in  crimes in the city which he believed were committed by a number of inter-linked gangs.
Wagambie said a suspect involved in a break and enter at the Anderson’ Supermarket was apprehended and formal charges would be laid against him while investigations were still going on for the robbery at the Lae International Hotel where a female was involved.
Meanwhile, a criminal was shot by a fellow member of a gang when trying to escape from  police Tent City in Lae.
According to police, the gang used bush knives and homemade guns and held up a family and as they were making their getaway that was when a criminal shot another by mistake.
