LAE police metropolitan commander Chief Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jr has been appointed acting Assistant Commissioner of Police for Central and the National Capital District.
His appointment was announced by Police Minister Bryan Kramer and acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations Donald Yamasombi who visited Lae yesterday.
Wagambie’s replacement as Metropolitan Superintendent will be announced later.
Kramer said Wagambie would be replacing Yamasombi for a period of three months.
He said the decision was made by acting Police Commissioner David Manning who was not able to travel to Lae yesterday because of other issues to attend to in Port Moresby.
“When Yamasombi left to take up the role as the acting DCP, there was a vacancy. So Wagambie will fill in as the acting ACP,” Kramer said.
Kramer said it was an opportunity for Wagambie to move up the ranks.
His performance will be monitored by the promotion board and the police administration.
He acknowledged Wagambie’s commitment in addressing law and order in Lae which has become a peaceful industrial hub.
Wagambie thanked the constabulary’s top brass for having confidence in him.
“If anything arises, I will consult with you (Yamasombi) in case we revert back,” Wagambie said.
ACP Northern divisional command, Peter Guinness thanked the police hierarchy for having confidence in Wagambie who was an “ideal candidate”.

  • Mr Minister for Police thanks for appointing Mr Wagambe Jr to the position of Acting Assistant Commissioner for Poice. Mr Wagambie is a hard working police office who have performed extremely above average and deserve the appointment. He is even fit for the PC’s job
