DEFENDING champions Boroko Motors Wanderers defeated Spirit of Rabaul Warriors 8-4 in the last round of the NGIP Agmark Cup over the weekend.
The win has them sneak past competition pace setters CCA Rabtrans Royal Saints into top spot.
Saints suffered an upset at the hands of Internal Motor Brothers 8-4 to drop to second spot while Wanderers have claimed the minor premiership.
They are 30 points followed by Saints 29, Locksmith Tigers 26, Rysa Hunters 25, SOR Warriors 24, Brothers 24, Warangoi Razorbacks 19, CBS Tabula 19, making the top eight.
Last year’s runners-up, Hardware Hammerheads missed out of the top eight after they drew 4-4 with Malfox Eagles while Hunters kept their finals hopes alive when they belted Rabweld Steelers 8-0.
In the other games, CBS Taula Eels drew SE Panthers 8-8, Paveks Butterflies thrashed Tobira Dolphins 12-0 while Pacific Lama Dogs beat Warangoi Razorbacks 14-4 but missed out in the playoffs on Saturday.
NGIP games director Michael Marum said the top eight teams would be battling for the ultimate prize in the elimination rounds.
