Wanderers clash with Brothers in tough battle

Normal, Sports

PORT Moresby Rugby Union pre-season competition will see some big games on the cards in this weekend’s matches.
In Pool A, the high-rolling Wanderers, after last weekends “gripping win” over Harlequins, will be out again to prove it was no fluke against pool leaders Brothers in the main game of the day.
The leadership of Aaron Miai at the club seems to have blended in well with the young “pack-of-wolves” at Amini Park, and might just be the first pages to a long-term success story.
Miai’s signing has also brought about a little maturity into the Wanderers’ camp.
The earlier crunch games will be the rested Chiefs up against the winless Harlequins, who will definitely be out in search of nothing short of a win, before the finals.
Apart from the disappointing results, in week one, last year’s premiers look to be slowly working some match fitness into all available players rather than “win-chasing”.
PNG Sevens standout, Monty Diave will need all the support he can get from a recovering Kapua Kapua, Emmanuel Auru, and slick back Chris Kakah.
While in Pool B, University-Defence match at midday will be a show not to be missed – University have another tough ask at the end of the day again, against LaSallians.
The Port Moresby pre-season, brought forward for the purpose of preparations for Super 5s at the end of this month, has started off well, with very little signs of “less form”, and is sure to produce a quality Southern Traders side come selection date.
