Wanga finishes first in 500m event in US

PAPUA New Guinea athlete Emmanuel Wanga continued his sizzling early season form over the weekend at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, United States.
He recorded one minute, 10.90 seconds for the rarely-run 600 yards (about 548m).
Wanga finished two-and-a-half seconds ahead of the second-placed athlete.
The mens 4x400m team of Alphonse Igish, Jonathan Dende, Ephraim Lerkin and Emmanuel Wanga posted an improved time of three minutes, 16.84s. Leonie Beu and Isila Apkup were also in action in the 600 yards and 400m respectively and joined their teammates Passion Crews and Zimbabwean Vimbayi Maisvorewa for a good season’s opening three minutes, 52.88s in the 4x400m relay.
The Washburn University event was the second of five scheduled competitions for the team during the indoor season ahead of the regional championships next month.
The junior college indoor national championships will be staged in Pittsburg, Kansas, from March 4-5.
