Wanga sets PNG record

MOROBE athletes Emmanuel Wanga and Leonie Beu were in great form in the United States over the weekend, in the first indoor track competition of the year.
The pair were competing for Cloud County Community College at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
Wanga set a Papua New Guinea indoor record in the 400m on Saturday with a time of 48.67 seconds, eclipsing the time of 48.79s recorded by Wala Gime on a similar track in 2012.
He continued his great form yesterday with a time of one minute, 20.81s in the 600m and 47.93s final leg in the 4x400m relay.
Meanwhile, Leonie Beu improved her own national record in the 600m with a time of one minute, 35.69s following a solid season opener of 57.77s in the 400m.
The men’s 4x400m was an entirely PNG team with Jonathan Dende (49.9s), Jonathan Dende (50s), Shadrick Tansi (50.4s) and Emmanuel Wanga combining in Cloud Team colours to record a time of three minutes, 18.24s.
