EAST Sepik provincial police commander Joe Poma is doing a good job and should stay in the post, says the chairman of the law and order committee Timothy Wani.

He was responding to a comment by ESP Governor Sir Michael Somare that Poma should be replaced as provincial police commander.

Wani, who is also the Karawari local level government president in Angoram district, said it would be a bad idea to remove Poma.

Wani said the law and order problem was everyone’s business and not to be dumped solely on the police.

“Our responsibilities as leaders is that we have to work together with the police, government agencies and the non-governmental organisations in the province to try to minimise the problem,” Wani said.

He said police tried their best to hunt down the thieves who broke into a supermarket in Wewak last Monday.

“I would like to urge the leaders in the province to work together with law and justice sector to address the law and order problem,” he said.

Wani said Poma was doing a good job.
