Wanted man shot in leg, arrested for allegedly robbing principal

A MAN from Morobe wanted for numerous criminal activities in Madang, including robbing a school principal of K158,600 in February, was arrested yesterday.
According to Madang police, Roseng Basuk and other suspects held up the deputy school principal of Wasu Secondary School Isaac Dambui at Voco Point in Lae and stole the money.
It was reported that the K158,600 was supposed to be deposited into the school account.
Madang police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang yesterday said Basuk had been captured in a dawn raid at Nangawa village in Morobe.
Six policemen from Madang travelled two days to reach Nangawa village, which is some 50km southwest of Wasu station in Tewai-Siassi, Morobe.
They arrived in Madang at around 7 last night and transported Basuk to Modilon Hospital.
He was shot in the right leg while trying to escape from police during the raid.
“This person of interest is wanted for the Voco Point robbery in Lae in February and Saidor (Madang) armed robbery and attempted murder on March 26, among other offences,” Supt Rubiang said.
“He was taken to Wasu station and attended to by the health officers before being taken to Madang.
Supt Rubiang said another suspect also arrested was 45-year-old Wasu Secondary School handyman Billy Bob. Also arrested was Saidor armed robbery suspect Jude Alibatau, 21, from Teterai village in Rai Coast.
“All suspects were transported to Madang town yesterday.
“I commend my men for travelling out of Madang into Morobe to conduct the raid and return with the dangerous suspects, it’s a job well done.”
Meanwhile, Police in East Sepik reported a murder case outside of Wewak town on Sunday night.
Police commander Supt Albert Beli yesterday identified the deceased as Richard Ware, 37, from the Wingei area, Yangoru-Saussia. “Both factions (involved) have agreed to certain demands by families of the deceased yesterday,” Supt Beli said.
