Wantok Radio Light open day a hit

Faith, Normal

HUNDREDS of children in Port Moresby gathered to attend Christian radio station Wantok Radio Light’s open day last Saturday.
The children came in early as 9am to start off the day with their parents and other interested people along with the station’s staff.
Boroko Foodworld provided buns and sausages and Coca-Cola supplied tents, eskies and other merchandise.
The open day was the lead-up to the station’s annual share-a-thon to be held on Oct 21-31 and is expected to attract thousands of friends, partners and supporters across the country to sow financially into the radio ministry.
A road show will start on Friday in Mt Hagen and will end next week in Lae.
The station’s managing director Pawa Warena, said the share-a-thon was an annual event held every October to raise funds for the ministry’s operational costs.
“This year’s focus is on ‘soul–winning’ (every kina for a Soul),” Mr Warena said.
He said Wantok Radio Light was a non-commercial Christian radio ministry which operated on “the support of our listeners.
“The purpose of share-a-thon is to appeal to our listening audience, churches, business houses and the Government to provide financial support to keep the station on air,” Mr Warena said.
