WANTOKS seemed to have left their best form too late.

They upset competition leaders Stingerz 4-3 in Port Moresby women’s softball competition on Saturday.

But that win makes little difference to their finals hopes.

Things were not so rosy for United Sisters either as Gazelle halted their climb up the points table with a 5-4 win.

Yokomo beat Wolves 7-5 in the other game, spoiling their chances to the top four.

The match between Chebu and Bears was deferred to yesterday but eventually cancelled due to the condition of the diamonds following rain on Saturday night.

Wantoks, who have been making life miserable for top teams, repeated the dose on Stingerz, inflicting their third consecutive loss. Stingerz’s early form though keeps on top of the table with 35 points.

Stingerz had the ideal opportunity to peg back the deficit with their final turn at bat with bases loaded. But Wantoks hurler Elly Arek was relentless leaving them stranded.

A boundary hit by Tesa Karai was not enough to keep them in the hunt.

Wantoks, who are making a habit of rolling top teams – the previous weekend ambushing Bears – will still miss the finals cut.

Standings: Stingerz 35, Gazelle 34, Wantoks 33, Bears 32, United Sisters 32, Chebu 29, Wolves 28, Yokomo 27, Admiralty 18.
