COUNCILLORS in Southern Highlands province say they need a leader with good vision and leadership qualities to put the province back on track in delivering goods and services.
While screening potential candidates for the Southern Highlands regional seat, which will be vacated when Governor Anderson Agiru con-
tests a seat in the new Hela province, the councillors decided that former provincial MP Anthony Temo would be their candidate for the regional seat.
Temo was a two-term MP (1987-97) and former transport minister.
Councillors such as Oki
Kange (Imbonggu Proper), Nena Nepas (Poroma), Yopia Yalunda (Lower Mendi), James Mali (Kagua) and others said when little money was given to the province and districts, they had seen many impact projects built by Temo.
They said the impact projects initiated by Temo included the Kaupena-Tambul road in Western Highlands, Mendi-Kagua road, Sumia-Pinz road, Mongol secondary, construction of
Mendi police headquarters, two-lane Magani Ri-
ver bridge, Yebi and Topa-
pil health centres, Yalum and Kubame primary schools, and all the council chambers in the Imbonggu district.
They said that from the little money given, Temo managed it well and delivered.
The leaders said they had to forget about tribal politics and look at working together.
