THE value of dedicated service to the state can never be measured by what the government pays people, Correctional Service Commissioner Martin Balthasar says.

Balthasar made the remark at Buimo when he farewelled two CS retiring officers – Lance-Corporals Robert Mayapa and Ananias Matrus, who had clocked 37 and 29 years respectively serving in jails around the country.

He said a warden’s career extended beyond the boundaries of jails and into rural communities.

“Your retirement is not an ending to your career; be an example and take leadership roles and responsibilities by putting your skills and experience back in communities to assist village peace and court officials,” Balthasar said.

Igam Barracks area commander Lt-Col Peter Aimos, Lae police Metropolitan Supt Iven Lakatani, Lae Lord Mayor Koim Trilue and Tony Ase from the Morobe provincial government attended the farewell parade.
