RETURNING home for his two-week break, Junior Varage Wari, a product of the PNG National Rugby League Bid All SchoolBoys competition, was a true ambassador of the late Aquila Emil by donating rugby league boots.
From Central, Wari was the first recipient of the scholarship named in memory of one of PNG rugby league stars, Emil by former PNG Kumuls coach Adrian Lam, through the Adrian Lam Foundation.
The foundation will be helping a lot of young players  and Wari is proof of this to further his education paid for.
It includes boarding, tuition fees, and airline tickets to and from Australia being met by the foundation.
Interestingly, Wari was not the only person to hand over the gifts, he had brought with him a school mate Dayne Campbell.
They had both come up with the idea of doing something for rugby league players in PNG.
Yesterday, Wari and Campbell were present at the Lloyd Robson oval  to present 34 “used” boots given by the Australian National Rugby League players and those participating in the junior competition at the school.
Wari told The National yesterday that he and Campbell had come up with the idea to help the boys in PNG.
He said when they came up with the idea they approached the school board and submitted the proposal to them.
“They agreed with our plan and made it possible for us to collect used boots for the school boys and the senior players playing in the Digicel Cup challenge,” Wari said.
He said the school boots would be given out today before Campbell flies back to Australia while Wari returns next Sunday.
Wari was scouted by Lam at the Murray Barracks oval last year.
He was studying at the Port Moresby International School before moving to Australia for further studies.
