Warlords warned to surrender firearms

HELA Governor Philip Undialu is warning warlords in his province to surrender and give up their firearms before the law comes for them.
Undialu made the call yesterday while signing a memorandum of agreement with the PNG Defence Force to establish a base in Tari.
He said since 1997, Hela did not have law and order and many people had taken advantage of that to become warlords and caused law and order problems.
“But not anymore, your days are now numbered,” he said.
“The provincial government have started working on building and strengthening the law and order system in the province.
“With the signing of this MoA, 100 Defence Force officers will be based fulltime in Hela.
“The Hawa Correctional Services will also be opened this month, and the eight houses for the judiciary staff have all been completed, so soon, we will come for you.”
Undialu said that the provincial government had given K300,000 to re-configure the old, abandoned Hela Technical School grounds which would become the new PNGDF forward operating base.

  • Good news for Hela and all stakeholders must cooperate with the Law enforcing agencies to make it happen to weed out warlords and restore Hela back to its former glory.

  • Seeing is believing! Attitude needs to be change in order to see tangible change
