DRIVERS of vehicles on the Eastern Highlands section of the Highlands Highway have been warned to care following two accidents last week.
Eastern Highlands provincial police commander Superintendent John Kale said four people died and others were badly injured.
One accident happened at the Lulape-Atex section of the highway, near Watabung station, last Thursday night.
Another happened at Mambu market, outside Goroka town, where a utility van and a bus collided.
Kale said the district administrator for Wapanamanda, in Enga, was killed with two others. One passenger escaped unhurt.
According to eyewitnesses at Lulape-Atex, the vehicle belonging to Wapanamanda district went off the road and plunged down a cliff into a creek, killing three people. They were the district administrator, a local businessman and a Grade 11 student of Kainantu Secondary School.
Locals retrieved their bodies and took them to the hospital.
