PEOPLE caught in possession of sexual enhancement products including sex toys will be in breach of the Censorship Act and face a jail term of six months or a fine of K3,000.
Minister of Community Development, Youth and Religion Wake Goi and National Censorship Board chairperson Karen Haive issued the warning in a statement on Friday.
They said corporate bodies caught with sexual enhancement products faced a fine of K10,000.
According to Goi and Haive these sexual enhancement products were prohibited under the Medicines and Cosmetics Act 1999 and Medicines and Cosmetics Regulation Act 2002, Classification of Publications (Censorship) Act 1989, Summary Offences (Amendments) Act 2018 and other relevant laws.
“The National Censorship Board and the office of the department are aware that there is an influx on the importation of sexual enhancement products (SEP) through illegal channels into Papua New Guinea,” Goi and Haive said in a joint statement.
“There have been sale of the SEP products with no warnings or precautions as well as side effects on the labels and so raise serious concerns on the safety profiles for the users in the country.”
They said these deceptive products caused harmful side effects and were increasingly becoming problematic in products promoted for sexual enhancing activities.
They said the National Censorship Board in its meeting on Oct 21 decided to ban the sale and use of these illicit products.
