COMPANIES and individuals in Kainantu, Eastern Highlands, have been warned not to seek government funding without the approval of the joint district planning and budget priority committee (JDP&BPC).

Kainantu MP Johnson Tuke said that certain companies and individuals were submitting project proposals to gain access to public funds on the pretext of developing the district.

“While I believe in private-public partnership (PPP) to deliver the much-needed services, it would be well mannered and polite should all these proposals contain the district administration’s endorsement,” Tuke said in a statement on Monday.

“It has become public knowledge that many proposals from my district are bombarding Vulupindi Haus (National Planning Department headquarters) for funding,” he said.

Tuke, who is also the Vice-Minister for State Enterprises and Public Investments, called on examining officers at the National Planning Department to be decisive and mindful when conducting project funding appraisals.

“Any development about to eventuate in the district has to have the blessing of the JDP&BPC,” he said.

“Public servants should not collaborate with private individuals for their own gains.

“For Kainantu, I am asking the national planning minister to tighten up on the influx of proposals that find their way into national planning and do not have the approval from the JDP&BPC.”
