POLICE in Mendi have arrested two police officers for allegedly drinking and violence.

Acting Southern Highlands provincial police Commander Peter Buka said that a policeman was arrested and locked up at the Mendi Police Station but bailed for K800 last Monday, while a policewoman was arrested and was in the cell awaiting to be released on a K1000 bail.

Buka said the policeman was arrested for allegedly drinking and assaulting another policeman in the station, while the police woman was arrested after she was allegedly caught drinking beer while in uniform.

Both were attached to the public safety division.

Buka issued a stern warning to police officers in the province about compromising their jobs.

“I will not tolerate any officer in the province to step out of line from their mandated duties,” he said.

Buka said some police personnel had tarnished the good name of the constabulary in the province.
