A BENCH warrant will be issued for a Madang teacher who failed to appear in court to answer a charge of using sexual and insulting words on a mobile phone.

Tony Tatu, the head teacher of a school on Karkar Island, was charged under Section 169 of the National Information, Communications and Technology Act. According to the act, he faces a fine of K20,000 or three months imprisonment or both if found guilty.

Prosecutor Eugene Wanai called his name twice at the Madang District Court yesterday morning but there was no sign of Tatu. It was the second time he had failed to appear in court.

It was alleged that Tatu had been texting the wife of a fellow teacher around May 19 making sexual advances to her.

He even called her “mummy” and telling her that he wanted to be her “daddy”.

Tatu continued texting her at different times on the day through to the night begging her to meet her at a particular motel room for sex.

He promised to do every imaginable thing to her which she would never forget.

But the woman’s husband, his fellow teacher at the school, saw the text messages and lured Tatu to come to town all the way from Karkar.

When Tatu entered the motel room he had booked, the husband was there to greet him. Tatu was given a beating.

Meanwhile, police are warning mobile users to be wary of how they use the telecommunication services because of the hefty fine for those who breached the regulations.
