Warrants out for 30

POLICE in East New Britain have issued warrants of arrest for 30 people who have not turned up in court on set dates.
They were on court bail.
“Guarantors are supposed to be responsible to bring back the suspects on court date in order to attend court but they are getting away with it and this has become a norm in the province with so many not returning after taking court bails,” police commander Joseph Tabali said.
The condition filed under the court bail has being breached.
Ezekiel Puat, 22, from Rakunat village, Gelegele, Rabaul, had a court bench warrant against him but his mother took him to the police.
He was charged with rape.
“We thank the mother for helping us. She assisted in bringing her son last week to surrender which was a great thing she did and others should see that and follow,” Tabali said.
Kaupa Eliakim, 29, from Rabuana village, Gelegele, Rabaul, was recognised by police at the Ralum police headquarters when he was there to attend land mediation with relatives.
“Eliakim thought we would not recognise him because he was hiding for five years without attending court but we recognised him and arrested him,” Tabali said.
“I encourage families and relatives to also report such matters to police.”
