TWO warring tribes in Kompiam, Enga will make peace today ending a conflict that claimed lives and destroyed properties.
This will also include the signing of the memorandum of agreement (MoA) between the Wagien and Pinai tribes.
Provincial police commander Chief Superintendent Joseph Tondop, yesterday confirmed that he was also inviting the district’s elites living outside of Enga to attend.
Tondop said the signing of the MoA would take place at the Kompiam district station today.
“I’m appealing to Kompiam’s elites and leaders to be present on this day and witness the event as I value your presence,” Tondop said.
“I will be there with the provincial law and order committee to witness the cease fire and peace agreement ceremony to end the tribal fight between the Wagien and Pinai tribes,” Tondop said.
Tondop invited the district’s leaders and educated members as well as the community to be part of the event because, “we all have roles and responsibilities to play in a community where we belong to.”
“The tribal warfare has intensified in Kompiam because of a lack of leadership presence to address issues at the community level,” Tondop said.
He said tribal fights were a major issue affecting law and order in the province and was everyone’s responsibility.
Tondop said the situation in Kompiam had been quiet for the last four weeks and today’s agreement would ensure peace was maintained.
“Both sides have respected the rule of law and they are now ready to stop the fight.”
Tondop commended the efforts of community leaders in working with police in bringing about peace.
