PAPUA New Guinea-based Solomon Islands striker Clifford Wate was commended for his inspiring performance over the weekend as he helped his team Tukoko University to a win in the PNG Telikom National Soccer League (NSL) challenge.
Coming off a huge loss the previous weekend against reigning champions Hekari United, Wate’s University team were desperate to earn the much needed three points.
Their determination paid off as they held off their opponents Gelle Hills, 1-0 over the weekend in a game described by the PNG media as the grudge match, played at the  Lloyd Robson Oval in Port Moresby.
Wate’s performance was backed up by his University team mates resulting in his strike partner Mopat Deremoa scoring the only goal of the game in the second half.
Tukoko Lae University coach, Wopai Ziziga, had been counting on the win.
He said the win would now boost   their chances of snatching a spot in the finals as they head into the next round in PNG’s premier soccer league.
This weekend Unitech FC will be up against CMSS Tigers who will be battling to maintain the top spot in the competition.
Tigers are currently sharing the lead with reigning champions Hekari Utd FC.
