EDA Ranu has an effective system of addressing fire emergencies in Port Moresby, managing director Henry Mokono says.

“We have an effective mobile team on standby to attend to any fire emergencies.

“If we get a notice, we can move people to divert water straight to wherever the fire is in the city. We have a network system in place. We can switch and divert pressure from one part to the affected area.”

He said Eda Ranu was capable of monitoring all the fire services although he admitted that communication was sometimes an issue.

“We have been working with the Fire Department, as was seen in the recent burning of the Stop N Shop supermarket last year. Eda Ranu and the Fire Department combined and we had no problem in putting out the fire.”

Eda Ranu’s chief operations officer Fifaia Matainaho said Eda Ranu was to some extent responsible for the fire hydrants as they had been maintaining them.

Eda Ranu discussed with the Fire Department last year’s Pacific Games and were able to ensure that emergency lines we reliable.

“We have a good working relationship with the Fire Department,” he said.
