The National, Friday March 28th, 2014
THE Burns Peak settlement in Port Moresby will now have access to water.
The water supply was launched yesterday by executives of Eda Ranu and the first secretary to the Minister for Health and HIV/AIDS, Guba Daera.
The project cost over K800,000 and was co-funded by the Health Minister Michael Malabag and National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop.
Water has been used by the settlement since last year after the completion of the project in January this year, a bulk meter was installed so the community could pay the bills.
Eda Ranu chief executive Henry Mokono said water was an essential need in the community and the service addressed the common requirement of any settlement in the city where the bulk of the population lived.
He urged the people to look after the service, manage it well and pay for the bills to sustain the service.
Burns Peak population of over 7513 had no water supply in the area for the last 45 years.
