MEMBERS of a Lae community, who had been without running water for the last 20 years, had tears of joy as they witnessed water gushing from a tap in their area.

Mothers in the Igam Estate community near the Igam Barracks in Lae felt their plight had finally been addressed.

The tap ironically was not built by the Lae or Huon Gulf district but a businessman whose company operated in the area.

The water well and tap was funded by Eastern Highlands businessman Winch-Lee Oibotee for K60,000.

Oibotee’s security company Night Owl Security Services (NOSS) is based in the area.

Oibotee, who had travelled to Lae from Eastern Highlands to officiate in the event, said he felt sorry for the community after learning it was without running water for many years.

“I paid K25,000 out of my own pocket to engage Maip Pumps and Drillers to drill this water hole,” Oibotee said.

“The drilling was successful.

The company has found water and we have set up a tank to hold and distribute the water.”
