Water PNG issues warning to consumers
WATER PNG has warned consumers owing outstanding bills that they will be taken to court.
In a newspaper advertisement, the company said it had to resort to this measure because some people had made no attempts to settle their arrears.
Water PNG said it had sent out water bills, disconnection notices, letters of demand and carried out disconnections.
“Our valued customers, both domestic and commercial, in Kokopo, Lae and Madang should be aware that whoever owes water and sanitation bills exceeding more than 90 days will be summoned,” the company warned in the statement.
“(It will be) followed by customers in Mt Hagen, Wewak, Alotau, Popondetta and Kavieng from July to December.”
A team from the company including legal officers, debt collectors and customer service officers have visiting some towns to deal with debtors.
“You are to expect court summons from District Court if your debts are below K10,000, or the National Court if the outstanding bill is above K10,000,” the statement said.
“To avoid court summons and embarrassment to yourself or spoil your company image, contact Water PNG Ltd office in Kokopo, Lae and Madang immediately to settle your debts.”
