WATER PNG has been selected to mentor the public utilities board in Kiribati in a new partnership offered by the Asian Development Bank’s water financing programme.

Water PNG is to mentor and transfer knowledge, innovations, and best practices to the Kiribati board.

Acting chief executive officer and managing director Raka Taviri said: “We are pleased to be involved in a new initiative for the Pacific water sector in the form of water operator partnerships or twining partnership.

“Although PNG will be mentoring, this partnership can offer us significant benefits such as staff development opportunities, achievement of corporate social responsibility goals, international contacts and profile-raising.”

ADB’s senior water supply and sanitation specialist Alan Baird thanked Water PNG for agreeing to become a new mentor utility, through this partnership.

The partnership will enable water utilities to improve service coverage and delivery, financial sustainability, and other aspects of their performance.

Water PNG will start with a diagnostic visit to Kiribati this month.
