WATER PNG has elevated its Lae office to a divisional status in an organisational restructure.

It will now have a general manager to head its four main divisions – business support, operations, customer and technical services.

The Lae division will be headed by Raka Taviri Jr to provide management leadership with the theme “your life, our business”. It focuses on providing quality water to the city it calls its core business centre.

The launching was held at Lae International Hotel last Friday witnessed by Lae Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Allan McLay, heads of government and corporate institutions.

Water PNG also launched its personalised Water PNG postage stamps and presented K60,000 to the PNG Cricket development team.

It also announced a twinning arrangement with Hunter Water in Newcastle, Australia, to provide assistance in the areas of non-revenue water, water quality, asset management and master planning.

Water PNG’s Bill Sweet said non-water revenue was to help reduce high water loss which, in Lae, stands at 30%.

Water PNG would also set up a laboratory to do water quality checks against standards, develop asset management systems to ensure proper maintenance with proper planning to meet increased demand, reliability, quality and security of supply levels.

Consultants Results Australia would also set up office in Lae to assist in skills development for staff aimed at improving performance and productivity.
