SURPLUS water tanks will be distributed to local level governments in New Ireland, according to chairperson of the community development, Philomena Jonah.
The surplus tanks are the leftovers from the Lihir tax credit scheme projects in high schools in the province.
The tanks will be delivered to communities and places in the province that do not have access to clean water or face water shortages, she said.
It complements the roof overhead policy for 85% of New Ireland families to have access to safe drinking water by 2017.
The local level governments to get the tanks are Murat, Lovongai, Sentral Niu Ailan, Kavieng Urban, Namatanai, Matalai, Tikana, Konoagil, Nimamar and Tanir.
