LAE city has again been hit by water disruptions that began during the weekend and continued to Monday and all of yesterday.
At Eriku, Top Town and the industrial suburb of Milfordhaven, there was no water last Sunday for more than 16 hours.
Residents, including an officer with the Internal Revenue Commission, who resides at Karimun Street, Main Market, described the situation as “terrible”.
On Monday, and again yesterday, some tenants at the ANZ Haus were forced to close at 2pm.
The Morobe provincial administration was also closed at midday yesterday upon advice from the provincial administrator, a public servant said.
Some businesses, banks, shops and the Lae court house were also forced to close early.
The PNG WaterBoard had advised that it had experienced a major pump breakdown during the weekend because of poor power supply.
It said three of its bore pumps were currently down with the fourth being damaged last Saturday.
Currently only two bore pumps are in operation and could not supply sufficiently.
As a result, the city will be experiencing low pressure for the rest of the week.
