BULOLO MP Sam Basil rates the Watut local level council in Morobe as the leading local level government to get things moving.

The LLG has implemented community projects that have benefited the people.

Basil said that infrastructure developments at the Maniyanda LLG station, once a ghost station, has been coverted for the better into a satellite station.

LLG president Waka Daiman and manager Raune Jambert had seen through several projects – road maintenance, upkeep of machinery, government station improvement, addition of coffee pulpers and improved aid posts and elementary schools.

Basil presented K60,000 to the Body of Christ (BoC), a committee including denominations that coordinated and monitored church activities.

It was introduced in 2011  and the Watut LLG offered 10% of its LLG earning as tithe to BoC, starting with K74,000 worth of material for churches to build permanent structures.

Daiman wanted to see 19 permanent church buildings and said communities should take ownership and build churches now.

The first payment was followed by K44,000 in 2012 and K60,000 each in 2013 and 2014, while K15,000 was given to a women’s group.

Daiman allocated K4000 each to 12 wards to utilise in ward projects.

Basil told the people at Maniyanda station last Saturday that Watut LLG was quickly becoming one of the leading LLGs of the six in the district.

“But the onus remains with people not to distract the channel of developments, instead fine-tune and realign their plans and aspirations with those  of  Daiman and Jambert” Basil said.

He distributed 17 sewing machines to women’s groups and sent a dump truck to Lae to deliver power poles for the rural electrification to light up Watut.

Basil said the LLG had created a spiritual link and connection as the core element and source of prosperity upon which the LLG will prosper.
