Watut power project stalls

Letters

I WOULD like to comment on the Watut electrification project which was initiated by Sam Basil, Member for Bulolo, and Watut LLG president Waka Damon.
I appreciate this initiative as we are seeing some positive changes in the rural areas.
What seems so frustrating is that the project itself started in 2016 with the laying of power poles and power lines but it suddenly came to a halt in 2017 and is now incomplete. Now the power lines are falling off one by one.
Some of these lines have fallen to the ground where they have been buried in the soil and are slowly eroding.
We are confused and wonder what is really going on? Are we really seeing development or is it politically motivated?
