FC MOROBE Wawens have been preparing over the past two months and are determined to make an impact at the OFC Champions League in Fiji next month.
Wawens are one of the two teams that will be representing Papua New Guinea at the Champions League when it gets underway in Fiji for Group B while PNG champions Toti City FC are in Group A.
Wawens will be going up against the host Lautoka FC (Fiji), AS Central Sport (Tahiti) and Henderson Eels (Solomon Island) while Toti City will face off against AS Tefana (Tahiti), Malampa Revivors (Vanuatu) and host Henghene Sport in New Caledonia.
Wawens players are all intact with the inclusion of three Nigerian players however club president Peter Seske said the three players were awaiting their visa confirmations to travel to PNG to team up with the club in Lae for 2019 National Soccer League and also to boost their maiden OFC campaign in Lautoka, Fiji.
“We also have a Brazilian and an Australian player showing interest but they may join the club later during the year,” Seske said.
“However we have faith in our own local players who we believe will step up for the OFC campaign.”
The club had earlier struggled to acquire additional funding for their season but recieved support from the Morobe government.
Wawens will debut at the Champions League and are looking forward to taking on Oceania’s best.
