Wawens get timely commitment from governor

FC MOROBE Wawens participation in the National Soccer League was miraculously assisted by Governor Ginson Saonu at the 11th hour in saving a cash strapped franchise according to a statement from the club.
The club has been in training for almost two months in preparation for the OFC Champions League but could not attract a sponsor.
Wawens had been without a sponsor in their first NSL season last year and against all odds finished runners-up to Toti City.
The team will campaign for the Fifa Club World Cup.
The franchise thanked Governor Saonu for the assistance in registration.
Funding will be given when government accounts open next week.
“Wawens are still without a major sponsor and are seeking sponsorship from corporate business entities to support their OFC campaign,” the statement said.
“We need sponsorship. We were not expecting to get here (OFC champs) so soon but our players and officials dug deep and sacrificed to get to where we are now,” the statement said.
“We have a short time before we out on Jan 31 to Fiji and would accept sponsorship in cash or kind to meet our expenses in Fiji over the three weeks.”
