We’ll give them a shake, coach says

THE touring Residents XIII are in with a chance to beat South Sydney on Saturday, Adrian Lam says.
Lam said this weekend’s Return to Redfern clash was very important to his side’s preparations for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup and more importantly to the people of Papua New Guinea.
The former NRL, Papua New Guinea and Queensland State of Origin player is training his Residents XXI squad at the Australian Technology Park Performance Centre, at Redfern Oval.
The Residents Xlll clash with the South Sydney Rabbitohs at 6pm on Saturday and Lam told Radio Australia it was a very important game for the players, coaching staff, and the people of PNG.
“This is important for the country,” he said. “We don’t get an opportunity to travel too often to play matches against an NRL side, so everybody’s excited about it.”
Lam said his troops would be giving their all to knock over the Rabbitohs, who finished in third place in last year’s Telstra Premiership.
“We’ve set ourselves some basic goals,” Lam said. “We want to give our absolute best of course. This is a step along the way for this World Cup that’s coming up in October in the UK, so we’ve got a big season ahead of us.
“I think there’s 14 players that haven’t left the shores of Papua New Guinea, ever, so this will be an eye-opener for them as well.”
Lam said his side would give the Rabbitohs a shake.
“I think we’re a chance,” he said. “It’s the same squad that played against Australia in the Prime Minister’s XIII in September and we were about three minutes away from winning the game.
“There’s a good harmony between the players.”
